The Weeping Hallow Trees
In the Enchanted Realms, everything living communicates with everything living. This is a difficult concept to extrapolate to the mortal mind.
Mortals only think of communication as being between themselves, and even then, much misinformation and miscommunication results when they do communicate amongst themselves.
The mortal tongue is so divided and has so many different languages, that even within the same language there is much room for misinterpretation.
Mortals have learned to communicate with some animal species in limited capacity, but in general, mortals believe their communication abilities are of the highest order.
A Weeping Hallow Tree from the Land of Enchanted Timbers would beg to differ, however.
The Universal Language of the Enchanted Realms is Mind Speak, and while different creatures have unique ways of expressing themselves amongst their own relative groups, Mind Speak is the default language all living creatures in the Enchanted Realms can understand when addressed in it.
The Weeping Hallow Trees are the keepers of the Tongue of Mind Speak. They can understand every creature’s form of communication, even creatures of the mortal realm.
But they are careful with whom they speak the tongue to, for though they can understand all, all may not understand them.
They are the ‘silent listeners’ who ‘hear’ the thoughts of all beings, but due to the Dark Forces and the Spell of the Veil, not all beings remember the connection between the Weeping Hallow Trees and the Mind Speak tongue.
So yes, a Weeping Hollow tree might decide to talk to a given creature in Mind Speak for instance, and though that creature could understand everything that Weeping Hallow tree might express, the effect of the veil on the creature might prevent it from realizing the ‘who’.
On the other hand, if a Weeping Hallow tree were to speak to a mortal for example, that mortal would have themselves committed to an asylum for ‘hearing voices’ (which in fact they did hear—but that is another story).
An Enchanted creature affected by the spell of the veil would listen and receive all that was expressed via Mind Speak, but it might attribute the ‘voice’ to the Deities or the True Gods, instead of the Weeping Hallow tree itself.
There is a saying in the mortal realm “If only I could be a fly on the wall.” Ah, but if only you could be a leaf on a Weeping Hallow Tree…
